Job Description:

Hotel Cerro, a newly built 65-room boutique luxury property located in the heart of San Luis Obispo amidst the Central Coast of California. Our Director of Finance will direct the accounting department and serves as the financial accountability arm to the General Manager. This position carries the responsibility to help identify business/financial opportunities, issues, and controls which help ensure that both capital and operating projects are properly forecasted and accounted for.

Our Director of Finance is very hands on and will head up the finance department, working to develop and implement daily financial protocols and practices that are in line with industry standards and meet the overall business goals. Working hand in hand with division managers providing support and tools that will sustain healthy financial practices within each division. These tasks will be performed with a humble demeanor and unwavering commitment to excellence in execution. They will be tasked with reporting bookkeeping challenges and takes the lead in communicating and delivering strategic financial resolves. Must deliver integrated development of these functional areas to ensure that system integrity is required and maintained and that service standards are reflective of the overall Property's 4-Diamond standards. Organizational leadership responsibilities include overseeing the development of staff. Provides input and support to staff development and to assessing and ensuring that we are both effective and efficient in the delivery of our costs and services.

The Director of Finance, with the General Manager, will be responsible to develop and maintain appropriate and professional communication channels with ownership to ensure integrity and confidence that Hotel Cerro's fiduciary responsibilities are met. They will develop and maintain budgeting programs and systems that ensure proper accounting practices, tracking, and the forecasting of present and future business. Responsible for special projects and business analysis as requested/required to meet Company needs. They are responsible for forecasting cash flow needs as they relate to operating and capital requirements; implementing strategies to ensure sufficient cash reserves are on hand to fund daily operation needs and capital initiatives. Establishes systems that successfully meet external audit requirements, provide appropriate compliance reporting, identify appropriate sales and property taxes, oversee leased property/concessions. Monthly leads the department managers through the preliminary review of the current months profit & loss. Compiles departmental summaries and with the General Manager's signoff forwards monthly financial operating package to ownership.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1) Develop and review budgets with management, including all revenue/room budgets and payroll.

2) Prepare budget book for owner review.

3) Forecast future trends and adjust budgets based upon input from ownership and modeling.

4) Forecast upcoming cash needs for both operations and capital.

5) Manage movement of cash to interest-bearing accounts to maximize returns.

6) Responsible for coordinating external audit.

7) Responsible for corporate sales tax return through the corporate office.

8) Responsible for obtaining building permits and other compliance issues.

9) Responsible for payment of real estate taxes.

10) Record in the GL loans/assets as related to capital leases.

11) Review and evaluate month-end performances and identify trends/issues for Executive Committee and General Manager.

12) Prepare monthly financial information package for owner.

13) Analyze various reports in payroll and other areas of operations.

14) Execute and ensure check writing and all payment processes are executed with integrity and in accordance with Company needs.

15) Responsible for reviewing in-house groups.

16) Establish periodic meetings with key staff to ensure that goals are being met on a timely basis.

17) Review all systems to ensure that they meet 4-Diamond service standards as well as all standards of integrity.

18) Communicate goals and status to General Manager to maintain communication on results being achieved.

19) Ensure that managers are properly reviewing staff performance and provide oversight to ensure that goal-based results are being rewarded and that standards of service are being maintained.

20) Provide counseling to managers on problem-solving both inter- and intra-departmental to help overcome impediments to meeting goals.

21) Be an active participant in Department Manager meetings; representing all financial aspects of the Property.

22) Work on key projects for the Property from a forecasting, analysis, or new product development.

23) Provide audit of key accounting purchasing areas to ensure that quality and quantity of work is maintained and executed within the specific goals and parameters.

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

1) Provide participation and leadership in Company activities to help teamwork and esprit de corp.

2) Promptly return phone and e-mail messages and set the example for the 4-Diamond service standard for both internal and external inquiries.

3) Subscribe to the 4-diamond service ethic as well as to the convictions and programs Hotel Cerro carries as hospitality practices. Supporting and committing the accounting team to participating in the overall Company efforts.
