The Food Science and Nutrition Department in the College of
Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at California
Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking a
full-time, academic year, tenure-track Assistant or Associate
Professor of Food Science starting September 14, 2023. Rank and
salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.The FSN
department will have access to 6 new laboratories in the Boswell Ag
Tech Center, a centerpiece of Cal Poly's new $125 million William
and Linda Frost Center for Research and Innovation building, which
will enable research and discovery to train tomorrow's leaders in
agriculture and food innovation

ideal candidate will have broad food science education including
but not limited to expertise in the areas of quality
assurance/control, food and beverage processing and their
interrelationship with the development of foods and food safety.
The department is committed to the role of sustainability across
all aspects of food processing and welcomes applicants in this
area.The candidate's primary teaching contribution will be in
quality assurance/control and food processing; other teaching
responsibilities will be in undergraduate and graduate courses that
may include but are not limited to food packaging, food
engineering, and introductory food science, as well as dairy/dairy
alternative and meat science.In addition to teaching, the
successful candidate is expected to pursue research and
professional activities. The candidate will establish and maintain
positive collaborative relationships with industry and government
stakeholders in the food science sector, and advise, mentor and
involve undergraduate and graduate students in hands-on-learning
and research activities. Service activities will include
participation in department, college, and university committees and
instructionally related activities. Expected to participate in
curriculum development and program assessment and development.
Participation in food science professional society at the local and
national levels is expected.Grade and salary commensurate with
education and experience of the individual selected. Anticipated
hiring ranges:
Assistant Professor: $82,000-$90,000
Associate: $90,504 -$99,000At California Polytechnic State

- Doctorate degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering,
Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related
field.
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered
hands-on teaching and learning, both undergraduate and
graduate.
- Evidence of potential to develop a successful academic research
program at Cal Poly involving undergraduate and graduate students,
including external funding and publications.
- Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work in
multidisciplinary settings.
- Engage with peers, students, industry, government agencies,

-ABOUT THE DEPARTMENTThe Food Science and Nutrition Department has
12 full-time faculty, numerous part-time faculty, support staff,
and approximately 600 students. FSN offers two majors - Nutrition
and Food Science. The department hosts a dynamic and innovative
Nutrition program that encourages national as well as international
perspectives on teaching and research. -The Department has strong
connections with the stakeholders in California and research
programs are developed in partnership with the Central Coast
community and food industries along with commodity boards such as
strawberry board. The Nutrition curriculum includes two
concentrations: Applied Nutrition and Nutrition Science. The
Applied Nutrition concentration is accredited by the Academy of
Nutrition and Dietetics. Within our food science programs,our
-Culinology - -program is Research Chefs Association approved and
Advanced Food Science program is approved by the Institute of Food
Technologists. The Department offers a MS in Nutrition, a MS in
Food Science, a blended program (4+1) in Food Science and a
Dietetic Internship program. The FSN department will have 6 new
