Overview:Empirical Systems Aerospace, Inc. (ESAero) is a growing
aerospace company in the San Luis Obispo area that provides various
services which include but are not limited to: rapid system
development, on-demand niche engineering, hands-on
development/testing, small UAS aerospace system manufacturing, and
electric-air vehicle propulsion design and manufacturing.Job
Summary:Reporting directly to the President and interfacing company
wide, ESAero is seeking a self-motivated Aero/ME Engineer to join
our team in San Luis Obispo, CA. Internally facing, the engineer
will assist in the multi-functional product development of new
electric air vehicle propulsion designs, while externally facing
will collaborate with outside engineering, standards, and
certification bodies.Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and Review Test Procedures and Concept of Operations
for existing and new test capabilities.
- Development, test, and validation of aero/mechanical
processes.
- Understanding of 3-D models, assemblies and installations,
system requirements, interface/supplier control drawings,
performance specifications, system checkout procedures and
statements of work.
- Creating system requirements, trade studies, sub-component and
test plans.
- Coordinating with vendors, internal and external integrated
product teams.
- Providing manufacturing, component, and other test
support.
- Investigating and determining root cause and recommending
corrective actions for component failures.
- Disseminate lessons learned from ESAero and our customers to
FAA, aerospace organizations, or other standard bodies as
appropriate and directed by Senior Leadership Team.
- Interface or coordinate with the FAA and standards bodies
regarding:
- Certification of aircraft, propulsion, and subsystems.
- Standards
- Manufacturing and Quality/Workmanship
- Test Procedures
- General Airworthiness
- Represent ESAero with strong technical presence and confidence
when externally facing to customers, FAA, standards bodies or other
engineering organizations.Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Experience with SolidWorks (or similar)
- Proven understanding of structures, mechanisms, system layout,
materials and processes
- Proven understanding of procedure development
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint).
- US Citizenship Required
- Willing to relocate to San Luis Obispo, CA
- Up to 25% Travel Required, including some
international.Desirable Qualifications and Skills:
- Master's degree in Aero or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
and/or 5+ years of experience
- Experience in electric air vehicle design
- FAA Part 23, 25, 27, 33 general knowledge of or direct
certification experience
- Experience with design for manufacturing
- Hands-on experience working with machine shops, integrating
prototype designs, and conducting validation tests.
- Fundamental understanding of other disciplines including
stress, dynamics, thermal analysis, production, electronics,
systems engineering, etc.
- Experience with Risk Management
- Familiarity with Military standards relating to the mechanical
