Job Description:
Family Practice/Primary Care opening in San Luis Obispo,
California. This PRN (as needed/as avaialble) position is located
at the San Luis Obispo County Jail onsite medical clinic.

Under direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator
(HSA)/Program Manager (PM), or higher medical professional, the
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will
skillfully apply expertise to evaluate and diagnose patients and
prescribe psychotropic medications as needed. This includes the
provision of a comprehensive treatment plan for patients with
complicated mental health conditions in collaboration with the
healthcare team and in compliance with all agency, local, state,
federal laws and regulations.
Education:
- Completion of a Master s program in nursing (NPs) or an
accredited education program for PAs Experience:
- Three (3) years of experience as an NP or PA
- One (1) year experience providing treatment to adults with
various mental health disabilities required
- Previous correctional/detention facility experience
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current (and must maintain) unrestricted license as a Nurse
Practitioner or Physician Assistant in state of practice
- Certification/Specialization in Psychiatric Treatment
- Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification
through AH
- Current DEA license and state controlled substance license
- Current (and must maintain) security clearance
- Provide telepsychiatry or on-site psychiatric services
including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of those committed
persons referred by the medical, clinical services or security
staff
- Prescribe appropriate psychotropic medications to address
mental health issues of the persons served
- Assisting in monitoring all psychotropic medication utilization
or assisting in coordination of psychotropic medication in a
cost-efficient manner
- Provision of Multidisciplinary Treatment Plans for all
applicable persons served per company and facility
expectations
- Chart all findings in medical records of persons served
providing written summaries of history, diagnosis and treatment
course or other documentation requirements as outlined by Company
and Facility
- Produce timely, accurate, organized, and legible clinical notes
of encounters and other relevant reports, logs and required
clinical statistics to the PM or Medical Director
- When applicable, screen committed persons for placement or
possible transfer to outside psychiatric treatment facilities or
other community mental health facilities, or providing support to
staff to gain access to outside acute care facilities, if a
higher-level treatment is needed
- Respond to psychiatric emergencies and initiate lifesaving
measures to man-down calls, identify medical emergencies, and
arrange for transportation to hospital
- Refer all 5150 eligible persons served to the County Mental
Health and/or Emergency Room for evaluation
- Assess for suicide ideation and manage the appropriate risk
level
- Attend daily sick call, notify current medication consult with
nursing staff to continue psychotropic medications, and discuss
conditions falling outside protocol perimeters
- Triage, respond and communicate mental health complaints from
medical and custody staff with Physician, Medical Director or
Health Services Administrator or Program Manager any potentially
significant medical complaints or observations discovered during
routine duties
- Maintain patient Confidentiality and HIPPA compliance
- Coordinate the activities of his/her shift and communicates
with detention staff as needed
- Provide on-going crisis intervention
- Provide on-call services as needed
- Uphold corporate principles of practice including but not
limited to: quality of care; cost control without minimizing
standard of care; utilization management of medications, supplies,
etc.; consistency and continuity of care via comprehensive medical
/ mental health approach to treatment
- Maintain a clean, safe, and secure working environment
- Participate in Quality Management Peer Review activities and
staff training
- May assist in the job shadow portion of the interview process
of potential staff
- May assist for orientation and training of new employees
- Perform other duties as assigned. Wellpath is an
