Job Title: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Pediatrics Profession: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics Specialty: RRT Pediatrics Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:00) Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty required License: Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in the state of practice required Certifications: - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required in ICU and/or ED - Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification preferred - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred - Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) certification preferred Must-Have: Cerner experience is required for all travelers at all campuses Description: The role involves performing basic and critical respiratory care services. The position demands the ability to work well without supervision while also maintaining supervision over others as delegated. Respiratory care services for pediatric patients with respiratory disease will be provided as ordered by the physician and in accordance with current departmental policies. The role includes completing paperwork, electronic medical records, flow sheets, and charges for each patient. Essential functions include assessing and documenting the appropriateness of prescribed therapy, including recommendations for patients receiving respiratory care services. Administering aerosol and oxygen therapy while maintaining charts is a critical function. The role requires drawing arterial blood gases per policy and physician orders. Care for ventilator patients will be provided, along with assisting in department record-keeping and operation as well as training and supervising new employees. Documentation of care given and maintaining records of treatment is essential. The role includes assisting in instructing nursing personnel in surveillance of patients and equipment after initial installation. Pulmonary function tests, drainage procedures, and providing patient care regarding cardio-respiratory disease are part of the responsibilities. The position involves providing suggestions regarding patients’ treatment and pulmonary progress. Assistance in cardio-respiratory rehabilitation and instruction to patients and families in the nature of cardio-respiratory diseases is also required. Routine rounds to check all respiratory therapy equipment in use or on standby in patient areas are part of the job. Completion of the ventilator bundle orders upon initiation of mechanical ventilation must be ensured. Compliance with the VAP bundle for all patients receiving mechanical ventilation is required. Identifying measurable and reasonable outcomes while using appropriate therapy interventions to resolve patient needs is essential. Effective communication regarding the patient’s diagnosis throughout their stay based on changing conditions and disease status is part of the role. Assisting with maintenance and processing of equipment and products used in providing respiratory therapy services is required. Keeping equipment clean and ready for its next use is necessary. Assistance to physicians during bronchoscopies and special procedures is also part of the responsibilities. Other job-related duties may be assigned as needed. Safety and well-being protocols must be followed as required for all associates and patients.
