certification Description: Unit has 20 beds. Pediatric patients are
not typically present. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 to 1 or 1 to
2. Electronic medical record system in use is Cerner. Charge nurse
is either the Nurse Shift Manager or a Charge Nurse. Resource nurse
available on each shift. Nursing aides are not applicable to this
unit. Weekend requirements include 4 shifts every 4 weeks. Holidays
involve one major and two minor holidays during the Christmas
period. Scrub color for nurses is navy blue. Telemetry equipment
used is Phillips. Ventilators are present, with respiratory therapy
managing them and nurses troubleshooting as needed. Hospitalists or
intensivists are not available 24/7; however, there is a plan to
have them on call 24/7. IV team available for PICC and midline
placements. Respiratory therapy is onsite 24/7. Pharmacy services
are also available 24/7. In case of staffing reductions, nurses may
be placed on call. Shifts are typically from 7 AM to 7 PM. Floating
assignments can occur to various units such as ER, Telemetry, or
Med-Surg, including a sister facility. Floor-specific orientation
includes a minimum of 2 shifts. Common diagnoses and types of
patients include neurological cases, radical cancer surgeries,
abdominal cases, urology cases, CVAs, TPA, respiratory failure,
sepsis, and oncology patients. Nurses are expected to work at both
campuses, but mid-shift floating is rare. This position requires
nurses to have a minimum of 2 years of experience for both
campuses. Nurses must prepare for possible shift cancellations,
which can occur up to 4 shifts during the 13-week assignment.
Charting is done using the Cerner system. A BSN is not required for
this role. This position operates in an acute care setting, and it
is part of the nursing division. The role specifically requires
night shifts, every other weekend, and floating to other units as
