Job Description:

Planned Parenthood California Central Coast (PPCCC) is a trusted provider of high-quality, affordable reproductive health care along California's Central Coast. Each year, PPCCC provides 35,000 women and men with health care services; including sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, birth control, breast and cervical cancer screenings, vasectomies, and safe and legal abortion care; at 5 health centers in the three counties. PPCCC also provides comprehensive sexuality education programs to help teens make healthy decisions, prevent unintended pregnancies, and avoid sexually transmitted infection. JOB SUMMARY: The Major Gift Officer is responsible for inspiring, broadening and deepening the support of individual donors to Planned Parenthood California Central Cost. S/he/they executes the strategy and management of an assigned portfolio with the responsibility of maximizing unrestricted and restricted major gift funds raised annually and for longer-term efforts, such as capital, special gifts and endowment campaigns. S/he/they is an articulate spokesperson for PPCCC and its programs and priorities in the philanthropic community. The Major Gifts Officer reports to the Director of Annual Giving.-- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to demonstrate Services Standards in all internal and external communication by
  • Establish long term goals and annual objectives for a major gift and planned giving portfolio of individuals in collaboration with the Director of Annual Giving; conduct regular and ongoing portfolio analysis, communicate outcomes and challenges, suggest portfolio adjustments as needed, and project results as needed for reports and planning.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward the assigned portfolio of individual prospects for major and planned gifts; ensure that the assigned portfolio is managed with the highest professional and ethical standards.
  • Ensure that major and planned giving donors receive appropriate, targeted, and timely proposals, budgets, and other information needed for cultivation and solicitation. As needed, prepare the strategy for communications and participate in crafting outlines, drafts, budgets, and final products.
  • Keep detailed record of interactive history for all donor contacts in Raiser's Edge; maintain information and tracking system, which helps determine the philanthropic interests, motivations, ability to give, and readiness of donors and prospects to make donations.
  • Thank donors in thoughtful, creative ways.
  • Serve as primary contact for donors in your region.
  • Support volunteers in organizing and holding affiliate events such as Choice Affairs and an annual regional event and local donor gatherings such as house parties.
  • Establish a strong pipeline for the Major Gifts portfolio by: (a) implementing an effective system for identifying, qualifying, and cultivating individuals with interest and capacity; (b) developing and implementing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for midlevel program donors who have the capacity to transition to the major gifts program; (c) working with development team members to identify appropriate prospects.
  • Support the Vice President of Development and Director of Annual Giving in fundraising activities, including cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies and donor events.
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Annual Giving in providing leadership and training for fundraising volunteer activities, which involve the identification, education, cultivation, and solicitation of donors, organizations and corporations.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Development to work to sustain, expand and coordinate the role of the Board of Directors in development activities in the Major Gift Officer's region.
  • Support all aspects of the Annual Fundraising strategies and plan; implement plan as required in designated region.
  • Keeps top prospects informed, interested, and involved.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Director of Annual Giving. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Ability to work with and supervise volunteers
      • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
      • Travel is required
      • Strong commitment to the PPCCC mission, goals and policies. CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:
        • Exceptional interpersonal skills and professional ethics, including the ability to create personal relationships and communicate effectively delivering exceptional customer service to a variety of stakeholders.
        • Provide professional high quality customer service in all donor, funder, volunteer and vendor relationships
        • Friendly and mature interactions and communications
        • Accurate information and follow through/follow up in a timely manner PRODUCTIVITY RESPONSIBILITIES:
          • Meet annual budgeted fundraising goals EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
            • Minimum of 4 years fundraising experience; including some major donor cultivation and solicitation.
            • Strong knowledge of and experience in non-profit fundraising activities. COMPUTER SKILLS:
              • Excellent computer knowledge, Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word. Raiser's Edge and InDesign experience a plus. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
                • Ability to work in a busy environment, under pressure without compromising accuracy, attention to detail and courtesy to volunteers, donors and staff.
                • Ability to provide feedback to staff in a constructive manner resulting in motivation for change
                • Ability to respond appropriately to changing situations
                • Self-motivated
                • Donor cultivation and stewardship experience.
                • Willing to work flexible hours, including Saturdays and evenings when necessary
                • Must have excellent customer service skills and be committed to providing the highest level of customer satisfaction to both internal and external customers
                • Ability to read and analyze information
                • Ability to research and gather information
                • Ability to organize large amounts of data/information into reports/presentations that all levels of staff can understand
                • Candidate must be able to travel throughout PPCCC geographic area
                • Other duties as requested. REASONING ABILITY:
                  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
                  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
