Job Description:

Are you excited by big data, really big data? Do you want to have a high impact on the security of AWS employee and customer data?

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Security is looking for a Software Developer with a strong passion for grooming and enriching security data to join its Security Infrastructure team.

You will operate at the convergence of the hottest areas in tech: Big Data, Analytics, Security, Software Development and Cloud Services. You will develop a broad and deep understanding of the overall company's security posture, work closely with security teams, then prepare, store and present that data in a way that is optimal for follow-on security analytics. You will work with an immense amount of data and other telemetry that is used to detect and mitigate security threats against all parts of our infrastructure.

You will be responsible for thinking big, setting goals, direction and priorities, delivering high-quality software, maintaining operational excellence, and leading interactions with customers and partners within the AWS organization. You will play a critical role in our ability to efficiently access security relevant data at the scale of AWS. You should be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity that's higher than most projects and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before. Along the way, we guarantee that you'll learn a ton, have fun and make a huge impact.

You will:

  • Work with data providers to transform their data, and build software that makes doing that quick and easy.
  • Build a data lake capable of handling every piece of host, network and service telemetry on the internal network.
  • Build exclusively on AWS utilizing existing AWS products and services.
  • Build tooling to let Security Teams quickly spin up analysis tooling to query the data they find interesting.
  • Prototype and productize data access capabilities to enable the securing of a large cloud environment.
  • Work with customers within AWS Security and with your team of engineers to develop systems that magnify our ability to deeply understand and rapidly improve AWS security.
  • Work with customers, engineers and architects to develop the best data warehousing solutions both in terms of performance and in terms of technical merit.

Work/Life Balance

Our team puts a high value on work-live balance. It isn't about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it's about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We believe striking the right balance between your personal and professional life is critical to life-long happiness and fulfillment. We offer flexibility in working hours and encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives.

On-Call Responsibility

This position involves on-call responsibilities. We don't like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don't get paged for the same issue twice.

Mentorship & Career Growth

Our team is dedicated to supporting new team members. Our team has a broad mix of experience levels and Amazon tenures, and we're building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship.

Our senior engineers truly enjoy mentoring more junior engineers and engineers from non-traditional backgrounds through mechanisms such as one-on-one mentoring and code reviews.

We care about your career growth. We try to assign projects and tasks based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.

Inclusive Team Culture

Our team is intentional about attracting, developing, and retaining amazing talent from diverse backgrounds. Yes we do get to work on really cool things but we also think a big reason for that is the inclusive and welcoming culture we try to cultivate every day. We're looking for a new teammate who is enthusiastic, empathetic, curious, motivated, reliable, and able to work effectively with a diverse team of peers; someone who will help us amplify the positive & inclusive team culture we've been building.

Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and we host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon's culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 14 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.
